Dudley Water Board Adopts New Hydrant Fee Policy
Municipal Authority · Meeting of July 8, 2026
Dudley's water board adopts a hydrant fee policy while flagging a PFAS cost spike. The Board of Water and Sewer Commissioners voted 3-0 to adopt hydrant flow test policy WS006.001, making bill-credit abatements mandatory, and separately warned that PFAS treatment media costs have grown from an estimated $40,000 to $300,000-$500,000 because the plant was "rushed" online before alternatives could be piloted. The board reported $287,000 in outstanding water and sewer bills and discussed seeking independent legal counsel over authority to implement a previously approved pay raise, with one commissioner saying "we should potentially look into a separate legal counsel that has our best interest." Commissioners also reviewed a proposed 20.5 percent cost-share with the town of Webster for shared sewer treatment costs and a roughly $7,000 quote to repair storm-damaged equipment shed atop the Bates Tank.
The board closed with a unanimous roll-call vote to enter executive session on collective bargaining and litigation strategy.
