Dudley board votes for $1.99M override

Other Committee · Meeting of April 16, 2026

Dudley officials voted to put a $1,989,950 Proposition 2½ override before voters May 18 after draining stabilization funds and free cash. Town Administrator John said the request would raise the tax rate from $10.06 to $11.15 per $1,000, pushing the average tax bill from $4,526 to $5,017. The package includes $1,846,139 to close a budget gap that already forced cutting a proposed police detective position, slashing the legal budget from $102,000 to $35,000, and eliminating grant-writing funding, plus $143,811 to keep two firefighters funded after a federal grant expires in January 2027.

Board member Mayotte pushed back on the school district's plan to cut federal funding revenue 25 percent, saying "I want to get something in writing from the school committee." Town Accountant Lisa said projections stay conservative because "DLS holds you accountable." The board also approved licenses for two new West Main Street businesses, L. Rinconcito Feliz and Emily's.
