Historic Commission approves two demolition permits
Historic Commission · Meeting of August 4, 2026
Dudley Historic Commission clears two demolition permits, moves up next meeting. Commissioners voted unanimously to allow demolition of a deteriorated, circa-1950s waterfront camp and a garage at 2 Conant owned by Jillian Rice, finding neither held historical significance. The camp's owner told the board he wants the structure down before a September 16 shoulder surgery and has already lined up two haulers, Dan's Rubbish and BP Disposal, for the debris.
"There's absolutely no historical relevance to this," one commissioner said in moving to approve the camp's permit. With the commission's next regular meeting not until October, members scheduled a special session for August 25 to keep pace with pending applications, after ruling out a September 1 date that conflicts with the state primary.
